It looks like Al-Bawaba has fallen for Norde Press‘s evidently satirical article on halal certified prostitutes. Not only did they fail to recognize it as satire, but they also tried to dress it up with a legal justification:
According to several sources, Shi´a Islam allows Nikāḥ al-Mutʿah or ‘marriage for pleasure’, a contentious option that permits temporary, contractual marriage. The marriage’s duration is decided before marrying and is automatically terminated upon completion of the agreed time period. Marriages may be renewed and financial payments may occur, typically with the husband paying the wife.
The transliteration inconsistencies are interesting: “Shi´a” uses a back-tick while “Nikāḥ al-Mutʿah” has an ā, ḥ and a half-ring character for the ʿayn.
It looks like the editors need to be more vigilant with their fact-checking and copyediting.
