Apropos yesterday’s musing on separating [Islamic] culture from Islam:
The culture of feeling good about desiring & performing blameworthy acts needs to be separated from Islam—not the culture of feeling good about desiring & performing praiseworthy acts. (Here’s more about feeling good about doing good.)
The culture of vice and excess needs to be separated from Islam—not the culture of virtue and moderation.
The culture of seeking worldly profit in all our interactions with others needs to be separated from Islam—not the culture of lending assistance without expectation of any worldly reward.
The culture of passing the time with pointless entertainment and in forgetfulness of Allah needs to be separated from Islam—not the culture of worshipful remembrance.
The culture of seeking solutions outside of Islam that can be dressed up in a jubbah and declared Islamic though their core remains unIslamic needs to be separated from Islam—not the culture of seeking solutions from within and through Islamic scholarship and sources.
The culture of today’s trendy non-Islamic principles setting the criteria for accepting, rejecting, and modifying all things Islamic—not the culture of Islam being the criteria for all that Muslims do.
